[DE] Leitfaden für Supportanfragen / [EN] Guideline for support requests

  • Guideline for support requests in the forum

    Dear users,

this guideline is intended to help especially for our new members and guests who do not have much experience with support in Omsi. :)

Here we are going to explain what you should keep in mind when creating a support thread or a similar entry so the community can help you as fast as possible or enable you to solve the problem on your own.

    1. Before creating a support thread
Before you create your own support thread you should always check whether there already is a thread for your problem. Omsi and this forum already exist for a long time, so it's unlikely that you are the first one with the respective problem. ;) To check this you should use the search function of the forum or Google etc.

After downloading content from the forum, you should always take a look in the ReadMe. Many problems, e. g. map malfunctions, result from missing additional content, so you can solve the problem by searching the ReadMe file for required additional downloads and add the missing content to your game. ;)

Problem can also be caused by a wrong installation because of not following the instructions from the ReadMe.

Furthermore, you should make sure to have the latest release of Omsi installed. Normally, Steam updates Omsi automatically. In the forum, we only provide support for the versions 2.2.032 and 2.3.

If you still use Omsi 1, we will of course also support you, but you should have the latest release here, too.

    2. Creating the support thread

If you did not find any thread concerning your problem, you are welcome to create your own.

Please take care that you do this in the right area.

If you have a problem with the main program, please create your thread in the area Omsi main program.

In case you have a problem concerning content which comes with the basis version of Omsi, please use the area Vehicles and maps from MR-Software.

If you have a problem with Steam, your computer or your hardware, you should use the area Steam, computer and hardware support.

If the problem occurs with payware addons, please use the area Support for payware addons.

In case of problems with freeware content from the forum, your thread should be created in the area Support for addons, mods, content and tools. :)

The title of your thread should be meaningful. You should also describe the problem in detail in the thread, so you should say a little bit more than only "The map doesn't work!" ;) Please also use the template which appears automatically when creating the thread. A picture of the problem can be helpful, too, however you do not have to show one.

In almost every case, we need your logfile. In this, Omsi automatically lists every action and program error from the moment the game is launched. It is a very important tool to find the mistake, so please make sure to provide the logfile. If you do not know how to embed the logfile, please have a look here. You can also add the logfile as an attachment or upload it to a file hoster, then post the link in your thread.

After creating the thread and any necessary activation that may have taken place, you might need a little patience. Sometimes you could get an answer in a few minutes, but it could also take longer depending on the time of day and the presence of competent users. Please mind that this forum is a voluntary extra offer by the Omsi developers. There are no obligations here, but on a friendly request in which you give many details and information you will almost always get an answer. :)

    3. Other useful tips

It is always recommended (even by the developers) to install the 4 GB patch. This allows Omsi to use more RAM on your computer, so the game will perform better. An installation of the 4 GB patch might help you if Omsi crashes etc.

Please keep in mind that threads and sometimes even answers written by new members or guests need to be activated. The moderators are only human, too, so we cannot be online 24/7. This is why the activation might take a while.

Many maps etc. from the forum require some additional content. Due to the move of the forum in summer 2018, many older links do not work anymore. Because of this, Staaken79 created a list with the most common modifications and their links:

    List with links

In the expert forum our former experts gave you some tips for creating mods. You will also find answers for general questions and help for the most common problems there. :)

At some problems we need to get the AI list or Hof file from you. Open the spoiler to learn how to provide them:

Since the last updates of steam and/or windows there might occur problems with the grafic modification Sweet FX. It could be one possible solution to deactivate the steam overlay for Omsi.

Extreme long loading durations of Omsi can be caused by an about 100 MB gas station font file which comes with this objects. To solve the problem, you can navigate into the fonts-folder (...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Omsi 2\Fonts) and delete the 100 MB file. It is not necessary for the function anyway.

If you follow the instructions, other users are able to help you as fast as possible and we don't have to ask for details. ;)
