Tunnel through mountain/terrain

  • I found a video on YouTube explaining how to make a tunnel spline through the terrain, but the video is in German (I don't speak German), I can't see everything that the person does, and if I try listening to what he says, it just does not work for me. I get these weird terrain spikes still.

    Anyone know of a solution for this?

    Here is the video. Unfortunately, it is from 2014, so it may be outdated.

    Also, raising the height does not work for me. I set the height of the terrain to 100 meters, and the tunnel is still blocked by the terrain.

    I set the first spline outside the tunnel to "Yes, no THs" and set the first tunnel spline to "Yes, both THs". This is what I get.

  • Right, I try to extract the main information for you. As a "normal" road spline he uses RQ10,5/7,5 2-Spur (so two tracks) from the Simple Streets pack and Folti's tunnel spline. Links for downloading them are in the description.

    At 1:10 he claims that he takes Folti's tunnel spline as it uses collision mesh, which is not used in the Simple Streets Splines.

    1:30 Three splines, tunnel spline is attached behind it
    1:55 the spline that goes into the mountain is set to "Yes, no THS" at Align Terrain.

    2:15 same with the one directly before the tunnel spline

    2:38 the tunnel spline itself is set to Yes, both THS -> save map

    2:55 he contradicts his 2:38 statement and sets the tunnel spline to Yes, no THS and moves it around.

    3:10 He sets the first spline to 10 meters and the next to 100m, tries out 1, 2 and 4 meters for the first tunnel spline for getting rid of terrain cutting through the top of the tunnel

  • Thanks for your reply. I tried all of that and still could not get it. But, what I did notice is it doesn't work because the rotation of the spline was not 0, 90, 180, or 270. From what I can see, the spline has to be pointed exactly in one of the cardinal directions. So, I set the spline to point 180 degrees, direct south (the tunnel needed to be pointed at heading 150 degrees S/SE), and it worked perfectly.
